Giant Shrike

Lanius giganteus

The Giant Shrike (Lanius giganteus) is a large, predatory songbird found in the savannas and grasslands of sub-Saharan Africa. With a distinctive hooked bill and striking black, white, and gray plumage, this shrike is known for its aggressive hunting behavior, impaling its prey on thorns or barbed wire. It primarily feeds on insects, small birds, and rodents. The Giant Shrike is a solitary and territorial bird, often perching prominently to survey its surroundings. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential risks to its populations.
