Giant Sunbird

Dreptes thomensis (Barboza du Bocage, 1889)

Giant Sunbird, Dreptes thomensis, is a bird of São Tomé in the Gulf of Guinea, where it breeds in the island’s central massif. It belongs to the sunbird family and is the only member of the genus Dreptes. Its range is confined to São Tomé, and it uses both moist lowland forest and moist montane forest. José Vicente Barbosa du Bocage described it in 1889.
