Apus sladeniae
The Giant Swift (Apus sladeniae) is a large, distinctive species of swift found in the mountains of central Africa. It is known for its impressive size and powerful, agile flight. With a wingspan of over 60 centimeters, the Giant Swift is one of the largest swifts in the world. Its plumage is predominantly dark brown with a slightly paler throat and belly. This species is highly adapted to its aerial lifestyle, spending much of its time on the wing, catching insects in flight. The Giant Swift nests in rock crevices and caves, often in large colonies. It is a remarkable sight to see these swifts soaring and wheeling through the mountainous terrain of their habitat.
