Giant Weaver

Ploceus grandis

The Giant Weaver (Ploceus grandis) is a striking bird found in the wetlands and grasslands of sub-Saharan Africa. This weaver species is known for its large, intricate nests, which are woven from grass and often hang from the branches of trees. The male Giant Weaver displays vibrant yellow plumage during the breeding season, while the female is more subdued in appearance. These birds are highly social and often form large colonies, creating a cacophony of calls and activity. The Giant Weaver's diet consists primarily of seeds and insects. Despite being locally common, their populations are declining due to habitat loss and fragmentation.
