Giant White-eye

Megazosterops palauensis (Reichenow, 1915)

Giant White-eye, Megazosterops palauensis, is a passerine found in Palau in the western Caroline Islands of Micronesia. It belongs to the white-eye family and was described by Reichenow in 1915. This bird is confined to the islands and is linked to tropical moist lowland forest. It is the only species placed in the genus Megazosterops. Its appearance is mottled, with a pale yellow eyebrow, a narrow light eye-ring, dark areas around the lores and ear-coverts, and slightly buff flanks. The iris is greyish to dark brown, and the legs are tawny or olive-green with yellowish soles.
