Gilbert's Whistler

Pachycephala tenebrosa

The Gilbert's Whistler (Pachycephala tenebrosa) is a medium-sized songbird native to the forests and woodlands of northern Australia. This species is known for its melodious whistling calls and striking black and white plumage. The upperparts are glossy black, while the underparts are white with bold black streaks. Gilbert's Whistlers are skilled insectivores, foraging for insects and small invertebrates in the dense foliage of their forest habitats. They are often observed perched high in the canopy, where they sing their melodious tunes. These birds are highly territorial during the breeding season and are known for their elaborate courtship displays. Despite facing habitat loss and fragmentation, the Gilbert's Whistler is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
