Gilded Barbet, Capito auratus, is a bird of the New World barbets found in northern and western Amazonia in South America. It belongs to the family Capitonidae and the order Piciformes. This species is a close relative of the toucans. It occurs in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela, mainly in tropical moist lowland forest and woodland, and also reaches lower foothills on the eastern side of the Andes. Its range lies in the Orinoco and western Amazon basins.
