Gilded Barbet

Capito auratus

The Gilded Barbet (Capito auratus) is a striking bird found in the humid forests of South America. It is known for its vibrant plumage, featuring a golden-yellow head, a black back, and a red belly. This medium-sized barbet has a stout bill and a distinctive call that echoes through the forest canopy. Gilded Barbets feed on fruits, insects, and small vertebrates, using their strong bills to extract food from branches and tree trunks. They are often seen in pairs or small groups, foraging in the mid to upper levels of the forest. Despite being relatively common in its range, habitat loss poses a threat to the Gilded Barbet's population.
