Melitograis gilolensis
The Gilolo Honeyeater (Melitograis gilolensis) is a small passerine bird found in the forests and woodlands of the Indonesian islands of Halmahera and Bacan. This species is known for its distinctive black and yellow plumage, with a black head and upperparts, and bright yellow underparts. The Gilolo Honeyeater primarily feeds on nectar, insects, and fruits, using its specialized brush-tipped tongue to extract nectar from flowers. Its melodious calls can often be heard echoing through the forest canopy. Despite being relatively common within its range, the Gilolo Honeyeater faces potential threats from habitat loss and fragmentation.
