Glaucous-winged Gull

Larus glaucescens

The Glaucous-winged Gull is a large, white-headed gull found along the Pacific coast of North America. Adults have light gray wings with white spots and a pale gray back, while juveniles have mottled brown plumage. They are opportunistic feeders, scavenging for food along the coast and also foraging in estuaries and agricultural fields. These gulls are highly adaptable and can be found in a variety of coastal habitats, including beaches, rocky shores, and urban areas. They are known for their distinctive calls and complex social behaviors, often nesting in large colonies on offshore islands. The Glaucous-winged Gull is a common and widespread species, but faces threats from habitat loss and pollution.
