Goldcrest

Regulus regulus

The Goldcrest is a tiny and active bird found in coniferous and mixed woodlands across Europe and Asia. It is the smallest bird species in the region, with a distinctive yellow-orange crest on its head. Goldcrests are insectivorous and forage in the tree canopy, often hanging upside down to reach their prey. They build intricate, hanging nests and are known for their high-pitched, trilling song. Despite their small size, they undertake long migrations, often crossing the North Sea. They are vulnerable to harsh winters and habitat loss, but their population is currently stable.
