Golden-backed weaver

Ploceus subaureus

The Golden-backed weaver (Ploceus subaureus) is a small, strikingly colored bird found in sub-Saharan Africa. Males have bright yellow plumage on their backs, with black wings and a distinctive black mask. Females are more subtly colored with olive-brown plumage. These weavers are known for their intricate, woven nest structures, often found in colonies in tall grass or reedbeds near water. They are highly social birds, often seen foraging in groups for seeds and insects. The Golden-backed weaver's population is currently stable, but they face threats from habitat loss and nest predation.
