Golden-cheeked Warbler

The Golden-cheeked Warbler is a small songbird known for its striking appearance and melodious song. This species is primarily found in mature oak-juniper woodlands of central Texas during the breeding season. The male has a bright yellow face with a black throat and back, while the female has a more subdued plumage. These warblers construct their nests using strips of bark and spider silk, often placed in the fork of a tree. They forage for insects and spiders in the canopy and understory, contributing to the ecological balance of their habitat. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Golden-cheeked Warbler is considered a species of conservation concern.
