Golden-crowned Sparrow

Ammodramus aurifrons

The Golden-crowned Sparrow is a medium-sized sparrow found in western North America. It has a distinctive yellow crown stripe bordered by black, which gives it its name. This species is often found in brushy areas, open woodlands, and along streams. Golden-crowned Sparrows are known for their sweet, whistled song that is often heard during the breeding season. They are primarily seed-eaters, foraging on the ground for grass seeds and insects. During migration, they can be found in a variety of habitats, including coastal areas and marshes. The population of Golden-crowned Sparrows is stable, and they are not considered to be at risk of extinction.
