Golden-fronted Piculet

Picumnus aurifrons

The Golden-fronted Piculet (Picumnus aurifrons) is a small woodpecker found in Central and South America. It has a distinctive golden-yellow patch on its forehead, with black and white streaks on its back and wings. This species is known for its drumming behavior, using its bill to create a rapid tapping sound on trees. Golden-fronted Piculets are typically found in humid forests, woodlands, and forest edges, where they forage for insects and larvae. They are often seen in small family groups or pairs. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential threats to their populations.
