Golden-fronted Woodpecker

Melanerpes aurifrons

The Golden-fronted Woodpecker is a medium-sized woodpecker found in the southwestern United States and parts of Mexico. It has a distinctive black and white barred back, a yellowish-orange nape, and a red crown. This species is often found in open woodlands, scrublands, and urban areas, where it forages for insects and fruits. The Golden-fronted Woodpecker is known for its drumming behavior, using its bill to create loud, rapid beats on trees to communicate and establish territory. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and urbanization are potential threats to its populations.
