Golden-green Woodpecker, Piculus chrysochloros, is a woodpecker of Middle and South America, from Panama through Venezuela and across Amazonia, south-east Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay and northern Argentina. It belongs to the family Picidae and was described by Vieillot in 1818. The species is a resident throughout its range and lives in many wooded settings, including rainforest, deciduous forest, terra firme and várzea forest, as well as more open country with trees, such as savannah, pastures and clearings. It is best recognised by the strong regional variation in its plumage, with several named subspecies across its wide range.
