Golden-headed Cisticola

Cisticola nana

The Golden-headed Cisticola is a small, insectivorous bird found in grasslands and open country across Australia and New Guinea. It is known for its distinctive high-pitched song and its habit of perching on tall grass stems. This species is sexually dimorphic, with the male sporting a bright golden crown and a black mask, while the female has a more subdued plumage. Golden-headed Cisticolas build dome-shaped nests low in grass tussocks, where they lay their eggs. They are highly territorial during the breeding season and often engage in aerial displays to defend their territory.
