Golden-naped Woodpecker, Melanerpes chrysauchen, is a woodpecker of Middle America, breeding in Costa Rica and Panama. It occurs on the Pacific side of those countries, where it uses subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and heavily altered former forest. It is a member of the Picidae family and was described by Salvin in 1870. It is closely allied to the beautiful woodpecker, and the two have sometimes been treated as one species. It has also been placed with several other species in the genus Tripsurus.
