Goldie's Bird-of-Paradise

Melipotes carolae

The Goldie's Bird-of-Paradise is a stunning bird found in the rainforests of Papua New Guinea. The males are adorned with iridescent golden-yellow plumage, with a striking emerald green breast shield and a pair of long, wire-like tail feathers. Females, on the other hand, are more subdued with brownish plumage. These birds are known for their elaborate courtship displays, where the males perform intricate dances to attract females. They primarily feed on fruits, insects, and small arthropods. Unfortunately, habitat loss and hunting pose significant threats to their population.
