Goldie's Lorikeet

Glossoptilus goldiei (Sharpe, 1882)

Goldie's Lorikeet, Glossoptilus goldiei, is a parrot of the montane forests and woodlands of New Guinea, with its breeding range in western to north-eastern areas, including the Huon Peninsula and south-eastern New Guinea. It is the only species in Glossoptilus. The bird was first described by Sharpe in 1882. It is mainly green, with yellow-green underparts marked by dark green streaks, and a red crown, blue back of the head, mauve and blue cheeks, a black bill and brown eyes. Juveniles show a much smaller red patch on the head.
