Goliath Coucal

Centropus goliath

The Goliath Coucal (Centropus goliath) is a large, distinctive bird found in the forests and woodlands of central and western Africa. This species is known for its striking appearance, with a long tail, glossy black plumage, and bright red eyes. Goliath Coucals are skilled hunters, preying on insects, small mammals, and reptiles. They are also known for their loud, deep calls that resonate through their forest habitat. Despite their large size, Goliath Coucals are adept at moving through dense vegetation and are often found near water sources. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential threats to their populations.
