Gorgeous Sunbird, Cinnyris melanogastrus, breeds in western, central and southern Kenya and Tanzania. It is a sunbird in the family Nectariniidae and was first described in 1884 by Fischer and Reichenow. The species was once placed in Nectarinia and was also treated as the same species as the Beautiful Sunbird before being separated on the basis of form. It is now placed in Cinnyris and has no recognised subspecies.
