Gould's Frogmouth

Batrachostomus stellatus

Gould's Frogmouth (Batrachostomus stellatus) is a species of frogmouth found in the forests of Southeast Asia. This nocturnal bird is known for its distinctive appearance, with a large head, wide gape, and cryptic plumage that aids in camouflage. It feeds primarily on insects and small vertebrates, using its wide mouth to catch prey. Gould's Frogmouth is a solitary bird, often perching motionless on tree branches during the day. Its haunting call can be heard at night as it communicates with other members of its species. Despite its widespread distribution, habitat loss and deforestation pose significant threats to its populations.
