Batrachostomus cornutus
Gould's Frogmouth (Batrachostomus cornutus) is a species of frogmouth found in the forests and woodlands of Southeast Asia. These nocturnal birds are known for their distinctive wide, frog-like gape and large, forward-facing eyes. Their plumage is predominantly mottled brown and gray, providing excellent camouflage amidst the trees. Gould's Frogmouths are skilled hunters, feeding primarily on insects and small vertebrates. They are solitary birds, often perching motionless on branches during the day and becoming active at night. Due to habitat loss and deforestation, the conservation status of Gould's Frogmouth is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
