Pterodroma gouldi
Gould's Petrel (Pterodroma gouldi) is a medium-sized seabird belonging to the Procellariidae family. It is predominantly dark brown with a white belly and underwings. This species is known for its remarkable long-distance migrations, traveling between breeding grounds in the Southern Hemisphere and foraging areas in the North Pacific. Gould's Petrels nest in burrows on remote islands, often forming large colonies. They are skilled flyers, using dynamic soaring and gliding techniques to cover vast distances over the open ocean. These birds primarily feed on small fish and squid, foraging by plunge-diving and surface-seizing. Threats to their populations include predation by invasive species, habitat destruction, and accidental bycatch in fishing gear.
