Icterus graceannae
Grace's Oriole (Icterus graceannae) is a striking songbird found in the oak woodlands and riparian areas of Mexico and the southwestern United States. This medium-sized oriole is known for its vibrant yellow plumage, black wings, and a distinctive black face mask. Grace's Oriole is an adept insect forager, often observed gleaning insects from the undersides of leaves or catching them in mid-air. During the breeding season, the male's melodious song can be heard echoing through the canyons and woodlands. Despite its localized distribution, the Grace's Oriole population appears stable, but ongoing habitat loss and degradation pose potential threats to its future.
