Cistothorus platensis (Latham, 1790)

Grass Wren, Cistothorus platensis, is a passerine of the wren family that breeds across Middle America and much of South America. It was first described by Latham in 1790. Its range is broad but patchy, reaching from central Mexico through Central America and across most mainland South American countries, with the Falkland Islands also included. In Colombia and Ecuador it uses moist grassy and sedgy páramo, clearings, farmland and interandean valleys, while in Brazil it occurs in cerrado, grassland and marshes. Taxonomic authorities recognise 17 subspecies.
