Grasshopper Buzzard
Butastur rufipennis
The Grasshopper Buzzard is a medium-sized bird of prey found in sub-Saharan Africa. It has a distinctive appearance with a dark brown upper body and a white underbelly, along with a barred tail. This species is known for its feeding habits, which primarily consist of hunting insects and small vertebrates, particularly grasshoppers. Grasshopper Buzzards are often seen perched on exposed branches or poles, scanning the ground for potential prey. They prefer open savannas and grasslands as their primary habitat, where they can easily spot and capture their prey. Although not currently classified as threatened, their populations are vulnerable to habitat loss and degradation.
