Gray-collared Becard

Oncostoma cinereigulare

The Gray-collared Becard is a small, insectivorous bird found in the forests and woodlands of Central and South America. It is known for its distinctive gray collar and black mask, with a white belly and grayish upperparts. This species is often observed foraging for insects and small fruits in the mid to upper levels of the forest canopy. It constructs a cup-shaped nest using plant fibers and spider webs, typically placed in the fork of a tree. The Gray-collared Becard is known for its melodious and varied song, and it is often heard before it is seen. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential threats to its populations.
