Gray-fronted Quail-Dove

Geotrygon caniceps

The Gray-fronted Quail-Dove, also known as the gray-headed quail-dove, is a medium-sized dove species found in the Caribbean. It is characterized by its striking gray head and breast, contrasted with a rich chestnut belly and undertail. This species is known for its shy and secretive behavior, often foraging on the forest floor for seeds and fruits. The Gray-fronted Quail-Dove is typically found in dense, humid forests, where it seeks cover in the undergrowth. Its haunting, mournful call can often be heard echoing through the forest. While populations are currently stable, habitat loss and hunting pose potential threats to this species.
