Gray-lined Hawk

Buteo nitidus

The Gray-lined Hawk is a medium-sized raptor found in Central and South America. It has a distinctive gray head, back, and wings, with a barred tail and white underparts. This species is often found in open woodlands, forest edges, and savannas, where it hunts for small mammals, reptiles, and large insects. The Gray-lined Hawk is known for its soaring flight and can often be seen perched high in trees or on utility poles. It is a solitary bird, except during the breeding season when pairs form strong bonds and build nests in tall trees. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and deforestation are potential future threats to this species.
