Grayish Piculet

Picumnus granadensis

The Grayish Piculet (Picumnus granadensis) is a small woodpecker found in the Andean region of South America. It has a distinctive grayish plumage with fine black barring on the upperparts and a pale buffy underbelly. This species is known for its acrobatic foraging behavior, often seen climbing and probing for insects on tree trunks and branches. The Grayish Piculet primarily inhabits montane forests and wooded areas, where it can be found at various heights. Despite its small size, it plays an important role in the ecosystem by controlling insect populations. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential concerns for its long-term survival.
