Great Barbet

Psilopogon lagrandieri

The Great Barbet (Psilopogon lagrandieri) is a large, colorful bird found in the eastern Himalayas. It has a distinctive appearance with a bright green body, red head, and yellow throat. This species is known for its loud, repetitive call that echoes through the forest. Great Barbets primarily inhabit broadleaf and mixed forests, where they forage for fruits, insects, and small vertebrates. They are cavity nesters and are often found in mature, undisturbed forests. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Great Barbet faces conservation concerns, and its population is declining. Efforts are needed to protect its forest habitats and ensure its long-term survival.
