Great Black-backed Gull

Larus marinus

The Great Black-backed Gull, or Larus marinus, is a large and powerful seabird found along the coasts of the North Atlantic. With a wingspan of up to 1.7 meters, it is the largest gull in the world. This species has a white head and underparts, with dark gray to black wings and back. Their powerful beak is yellow with a red spot, and their legs are pink. Great Black-backed Gulls are highly opportunistic feeders, preying on fish, small birds, and scavenging on carrion. They are often found in coastal areas, including rocky cliffs, beaches, and harbors. These gulls are known for their aggressive behavior and are often seen dominating other gull species at feeding sites.
