Great Bustard

Melanocorypha maxima

The Great Bustard is a large, ground-dwelling bird found in open grasslands and steppes of Europe and Asia. It is known for its impressive courtship displays, during which males puff up their necks and emit deep, booming calls. This species is primarily herbivorous, feeding on a variety of plant matter and insects. Great Bustards are highly social outside of the breeding season, often forming large flocks. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the Great Bustard faces conservation challenges and is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN.
