Great Hornbill

Rhyticeros plicatus

The Great Hornbill, also known as the concave-casqued hornbill, is a large bird found in the forests of Southeast Asia. It is known for its striking appearance, with a large yellow and black casque on top of its bill. This bird plays a significant role in the forest ecosystem as a seed disperser. Great Hornbills are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits, but they also consume small vertebrates and insects. They are known for their loud, resonant calls that can be heard over long distances. These birds are monogamous and form strong pair bonds. The Great Hornbill is listed as Near Threatened due to habitat loss and hunting for its casque and meat.
