Great Kiskadee

Megarynchus pitangua

The Great Kiskadee is a large, noisy flycatcher found in open woodlands, savannas, and urban areas throughout Central and South America. It is easily recognizable by its striking black and white head, bright yellow underparts, and brown wings. This species is known for its loud and distinctive call, which sounds like its name 'kis-ka-dee.' Great Kiskadees are opportunistic feeders, preying on insects, small vertebrates, and even fruits. They are often seen perching prominently on branches or wires, scanning for prey. Despite their adaptability to human-modified landscapes, habitat loss and deforestation pose threats to their populations.
