Great Knot

The Great Knot is a medium-sized shorebird with a distinctive long, straight bill. During the breeding season, it has a rich chestnut and black speckled plumage on its upperparts, while its underparts are white. In non-breeding plumage, the Great Knot has a more uniform grayish-brown coloration. This species undertakes one of the longest migrations of any bird, traveling from its breeding grounds in the Arctic to its non-breeding areas in Australia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. It is often found in coastal mudflats, sandy beaches, and estuaries where it forages for invertebrates. The Great Knot is facing threats from habitat loss and degradation, and its conservation status is Near Threatened according to the IUCN Red List.
