Lonchura grandis
The Great Munia, also known as the White-headed Munia, is a small finch native to Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its striking white head and chestnut-brown body. These social birds are often found in flocks, foraging for grass seeds and grains in open grasslands, rice fields, and marshes. They build their nests in tall grasses and reeds, often near water. The Great Munia is known for its melodious song, and is popular in aviculture. Due to habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade, the species faces conservation concerns in some parts of its range.
