Gallinago media
The Great Snipe (Gallinago media) is a medium-sized wader bird found in the northern parts of Europe and Asia. It is known for its distinctive drumming display during the breeding season, where males produce a sound by rapidly beating their tail feathers against the air. This species prefers wet meadows, bogs, and marshes as its breeding habitat, and it migrates to sub-Saharan Africa for the winter. Great Snipes have cryptic plumage, with intricate patterns of browns, buffs, and blacks that provide excellent camouflage in their preferred habitats. They are considered a species of least concern by the IUCN, but their populations are declining due to habitat loss and hunting in some areas.
