Great Spinetail, Synallaxis hypochondriaca, is a bird of the Furnariidae family found in northern Peru, where it is confined to the upper Marañón valley. It lives in arid mountain country with thick scrub, cactus, and scattered Acacia, Bombax and Alnus trees. This is a large, long-tailed spinetail with the same plumage in both sexes. It has a broad white eyebrow, a dull brown crown, rufous wing coverts, a graduated dusky brown tail, and white underparts marked with brown-grey streaking. Juveniles are less heavily marked below.
