Great White Egret

Calherodius leuconotus

The Great White Egret, also known as the Great Egret, is a striking wading bird with a long, S-curved neck and a dagger-like yellow bill. It is a large heron with all-white plumage and black legs and feet. This species is known for its graceful and deliberate movements as it hunts for fish, frogs, and other aquatic creatures in shallow water. Great White Egrets are often found in wetlands, marshes, and along the edges of lakes and rivers. They are skilled hunters, using their sharp bills to spear prey. During the breeding season, they develop long, delicate plumes on their back, which were once highly sought after for the millinery trade. Despite past threats, the Great White Egret is now a widespread and common species.
