Great Xenops

Great Xenops, Megaxenops parnaguae, is a passerine of the Furnariidae that breeds in eastern Brazil. It is the only species in its genus and has no subspecies. Found in a diagonal belt from Piauí and Ceará south-westwards through Tocantins and Bahia to Minas Gerais and Goiás, it lives in caatinga and in the semi-humid woodland and forest within that region. It is a year-round resident. The bird has a heavy bill that is wedge-shaped and slightly upturned, and the sexes look the same.
