Greater Adjutant

Leptoptilos dubius

The Greater Adjutant is a large stork found in South and Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive appearance with a massive bill, bare head, and a hunched posture. These birds are scavengers and often feed on carrion, as well as small mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. They are known for their communal nesting habits, with several pairs nesting in the same tree. The Greater Adjutant has faced significant population declines due to habitat loss and hunting. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their remaining habitats and breeding sites.
