Greater Antillean Bullfinch, Melopyrrha violacea, is a passerine in the tanager family that breeds in the Bahamas and Hispaniola in North America. It was first described by Linnaeus in 1758. The bird is also recorded from Jamaica and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Its range includes dry forest, moist lowland forest, moist montane forest, dry shrubland, and heavily altered former woodland. The species was once placed in Loxigilla, but later work moved it to Melopyrrha. Five subspecies are recognised, including forms from the Bahamas, Hispaniola, nearby islands, Tortue Island, and Jamaica.
