Greater Flameback

Chrysocolaptes festivus

The Greater Flameback, also known as the Greater Goldenback, is a medium-sized woodpecker found in South and Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive golden-yellow back and a red crown, with black and white markings on its wings and tail. This species is known for its loud, repetitive calls and can often be found in open woodlands, parks, and gardens. The Greater Flameback uses its strong bill to excavate insects from tree bark and is an important part of its ecosystem as a seed disperser. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential future threats to this species.
