Greater Flowerpiercer

Greater Flowerpiercer, Diglossa major, is a passerine of the tepuis in South America, breeding in western Guyana, eastern Venezuela and far northern Brazil. It belongs to the tanager family and is tied to montane forest openings, forest margins, shrubland and stunted woodland on these flat-topped mountains. It is the largest member of its genus. The adult shows a black facial mask, a bluish-slate body, silvery markings on the face, crown and back, and a chestnut crissum. It is usually seen alone or in pairs, though it may join mixed flocks.
