Greater Lophorina

Lophorina latipennis Rothschild, 1907

Greater Lophorina, Lophorina latipennis, is a bird-of-paradise in the family Paradisaeidae that breeds in montane western, central and north-eastern New Guinea. It was first described by Rothschild in 1907. The species is a passerine and was once treated as part of the superb bird-of-paradise. It is a forest bird of New Guinea, especially in rainforest and along forest margins, and is also associated with mountain forest. Three subspecies are recognised, with forms recorded from western New Guinea through central and south-eastern areas to the Huon Peninsula and nearby ranges.
