Greater Pewee

Contopus pertinax

The Greater Pewee is a small, olive-gray flycatcher found in the western parts of North and Central America. It has a distinctive call and can often be found perched in the upper canopy of mature pine-oak forests. This species primarily feeds on flying insects, which it catches by making short sallies from its perch. The Greater Pewee is known for its repetitive, whistled song, which it uses to establish and defend its territory. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation pose potential threats to this species in the future.
