Taraba major

The Greater Swallow-tailed Swift, scientifically known as Taraba major, is a large, striking swift found in South America. This species is known for its impressive aerial acrobatics, often seen soaring high in the sky as it hunts for flying insects. With a wingspan of approximately 20 inches, the Greater Swallow-tailed Swift has a distinctively forked tail and dark plumage. It nests in caves and crevices in cliffs, and is known for its high-pitched calls that echo through its chosen habitats. This species is a master of the air, rarely seen on the ground except when nesting.
